The stretch of coast that enjoys a tidal range of around 13 meters makes it perfect to beach a condemned vessel directly onto the shoreline.
There are around 200 plots to carry out the ship recycling activities. This activity forms an industry by itself, as it provides around 50,000 jobs in Alang itself and generates steel & metal totaling to millions of tons every year. The finished items includes rolling scrap, profile plates, machinery, engine - generator, electric motor & wire and furniture and lots of other re-usable items.
